After speaking with Wordsworth at Cincinnati’s yearly celebration of the Hip-Hop elements, Scribble Jam, I spent eight months waiting to hear the highly promising project from his newly formed group, EMC. This album, The Show, has finally arrived and along for the ride with Words is his longtime partner-in-rhyme, Punchline, along with Stricklin, and legendary Juice Crew member, Masta Ace. Sounds great, right? Well, keep in mind the Hip-Hop “super-groups” of the past that have failed to deliver consistent and cohesive works while praying this curse does not fall upon these great emcees.
EMC collectively serves up a concept album, making it near impossible to avoid comparison to the previous Masta Ace classics, Disposable Arts and A Long Hot Summer; especially considering all of EMC made considerable contributions to these albums. The Show starts off with the piano-laced “Who We Be,” a fine introductory and biographical brush-up on the different members of the group. The album doesn’t hesitate to jump right into concept mode and it sounds as if it may stick the landing by going right into another sure shot, “Leak It Out.” In this song, EMC provides us with top-notch lyrics from all four emcees and arguably the best verse of the album, courtesy of Punchline.
A recent participant in Rawkus Records “Rawkus 50″ campaign where he released “The Horror Flick” LP, Bekay drops a remix for “I’m The Reason” that was not on his Rawkus LP and will only be available on his forthcoming remix EP “The Horror Flick Remix” (5-12-08) EP. Bekay is currently working on new material with Alchemist, J.R. Rotem, Masta Ace, DJ Revolution and DJ Kay Slay.
“I’m The Reason” Remix is produced by M-Phazes and earlier this month he won the 2008 “One Stop Beat Battle” that Sha Money XL organized and founded in Phoenix, AZ.
Foul Mouth Jerk - “Small Town USA” featuring Masta Ace
Foul Mouth Jerk and Masta Ace team up to return the love back they have received from rocking shows in small towns all across the United States of America. According to them, small towns are the place to go and rock shows. “So Map Out a Tour and Connect The Dots”. Don’t forget Providence, RI when ur planning out your tour. Word.
Small Towns USA is from Foul Mouth Jerk’s fourth full-length LP, Streetlight Music. Streetlight Music is an homage to the earliest days of Hip-Hop, when jams were thrown in the park and electricity was boosted to power the turntables, amps and equipment. The content of the LP is both a throwback to the days when originality was king and a push towards new styles and developments; which is reflected by the inclusion of rap legends Masta Ace, Murs of Living Legends, El Da Sensai of The Artifacts and one of Hip-Hop’s original godfathers Grandmaster Caz of the Cold Crush Brothers. It’s blue collar Hip-Hop for blue collar fans, laced with intelligence and FMJ’s sharp cynical wit.
