I never thought this album would have added up for me.First off, anyone teaming up with Vast Aire would most likely foil in comparison to what was done with Megallah on the Cannibal Ox LP.And secondly, fourteen tracks with eleven different producers can sometimes lead to an incoherent mess of an album.Turns out my assumptions have been proved wrong by Vast and his new teammate, Karniege, who form together as Mighty Joseph to put out the solid effort, Empire State.Truth be told, not since The Cold Vein have I heard another emcee compliment and contrast Vast’s style as nicely as Karniege, and to be even more honest, I haven’t heard an album produced as well as this one in a long time.

Vast Aire, remember him? He’s the titan MC who shocked the world and conquered critics as the leader of Definitive Jux’s landmark upstart crew, Cannibal Ox; their essential 2002 debut, Cold Vein, was a chart-topper in nearly every smart music critic’s year-end poll.
After quickly following up his critically-acclaimed 2004 solo-debut, Look Mom…No Hands, with two Martial Arts inspired Way Of The Fist mixtapes and after a few years scratching his collaborative itch (2005’s The Best Damn Rap Show with High & Mighty’s DJ Mighty Mi and in 2007, Vast joined forces with Karniege under the pseudonym Mighty Joseph and released Empire State) Vast returns with his sophomore solo-LP, Dueces Wild, which will be released on June 24, 2008 on One Records.
Here is a freshly leaked track from the long awaited album from Karniege “From The Left”. The upcoming Uncommon Recordsrelease officially drops in March andis produced by Nasa. Karniege and Nasa worked together on Def Jux to put out the hit single “Make News” which was included on the Def Jux Vol. 3 Comp.

A few projects and solo endeavours later, Vast Aire is now back with Karniege to release the Mighty Joseph album, inspired on the King Kong theme, Both artists are headin for the top of NY, like King Kong was headin for the top of another American symbol, the Empire State Building…
You’re about to release ‘Mighty Joseph’ through Urchin Studios, please tell us more about that project…When is the release date?
It should be out by February 12th 2008, the project is on I.G.C. Rec/Urchin Studios. This is a dope LP, it’s just raw and fun hip-hop that needs to come to the forefront! Vast Aire is bringing that raw again!
It all started over 12 years ago at Washington Irving Highschool. Vast Aire from Harlem and Karniege from Brooklyn formed a long lasting friendship that would eventually lead to the birth of Mighty Joseph. With Karniege at his side, Vast Aire toured all over the world promoting his solo project as well as with Cannibal Ox. (one of my personal favorites!) The duo used this time together to vibe and feed off each other to become better at the art of Hip Hop. And so it was, In 2005 the two finally decided to work together to create their first album Empire State.
