Akrobatik’s Record Release Party in Boston
This show Akro and Mr. Lif flipped it up from the set they performed in NYC. This time Akrobatik came out first. My timing was all off. I was trapped at the bar trying to get a drink when Akrobatik came out to bless the stage. He kicked off his set with my favorite song off the new album, “Step It Up”. Just my luck. I had to drop my money on the bar, grab my beer and run to get to my spot to record his set.
Akrobatik then went on the perform “Ak Be Nimble”, the double time rap he does over beat boxing. It was amazing to see him pull this off live and not miss a word. Akro is real deal. Akro then gave the people a live version of A to the K, which is the first song of the new album. Akrobatik then took time to build with the crowd letting them know how good it was to be home. He brought his girl Brenna Gethers on stage to perform the song “Rain”. Brenna is double trouble. She is sexy and she can sing. Later I was able to talk to her and she was real humble and down to earth. Very approachable. She has a new fan.
“If Your Hands Ain’t In the Air Why The Fuck Are You Here?” was the hook as Akrobatik started performing his classic songs Hyprocrite and Internet Emcees. The crowd went Bananas.
Mr. Lif was brought onto the stage and Akro vanished. Lif dropped some verses and interacted with the crowd, testing them to see how much noise they could make. Cameras flashed. The lights on stage were strobing. The Crowd was mesmerized. “Party People Who Are You? I Phantom“. Then Lif rocked some new shit that I never heard before. Hopefully I will upload the video soon for y’all to see. The triple threat of producer, DJ, and fly emcee Therapy came from behind the tables to tear up the stage. Therapy is a talented dude.
Lif would go onto to rock a full set before reuniting with Akrobatik. Together Ak and Lif went on to work the crowd. If you have ever saw Akro and Lif perform together you know without me even having to tell you how dope this show was. If you have never seen these two together and you consider yourself a hip hop fan, you owe it to yourself to go see these guys. In one weeks time I drive a total of 9 hours (round trip) to watch these brothers perform. So to sum it all up: They straight up and down, left to right, front to back put on a clinic on how to rock a show. Period.
This show had B-Girls too, but they didn’t show up till late. The hung out in the back of the crowd and “Up Rocked” and “Pop and Locked”. B-Girls equals fresh.
Now getting back to the problem with the drive that I mentioned earlier. Since Boston is only an hour away from my lab, there was no need to get a hotel room, but driving home for an hour while still buzzing of the malt beverages was not fun. It was a huge miscalculation on my part. I’ll figure it out for the next show in Boston. Word Up.
Check the photo gallery for flicks from the show taken by DawnStar. Big up to Ryan Gargiulo from Pause The Moment who was at the show. I have not seen Ryan in a long time. Ryan is a gifted photographer and a good dude. He put me onto the new photo gallery software I am using. Ryan … You The Man.
