Fallen Soldier

Wayne Frost AKA Frosty Freeze 12/08/63~04/03/08
My head is hung deepened with sadness as we say goodbye to a pioneer in this hip hop culture. Wayne Frost aka Frosty Freeze passed away April 3, and days later the thoughts of him not being on the scene still resonate with me.
As all of you should know Frosty Freeze was one of the most recognized B-Boys and rightfully so. Frosty became a part of the Rock Steady Crew in 81 and will always be remembered as a mentor and pioneer. Frosty was one of the sickest B-Boys with such originality, a constant energetic demeanor and notorious “suicide” move. Frosty managed to make history as the first B-Boy to ever grace the cover of a magazine “The Village Voice” in 81. He appeared in films such as Wild Style, Flashdance and Style Wars also seen in music videos for Afrika Bombata and Soulsonic Force. Frosty toured with the great Fab 5 Freddy and was also honored at the VHI Hip Hop Honors in 04. Frosty also had another amazing talent…. it was putting smiles on the faces of everyone around and keeping them there even after he leaves us…. That in itself should speak of the magnitude of character this man had. To lose such an influential TEACHER will not be easy for those affected to get over but as we in the Hip Hop community most importantly the B-Boy/B-Girl element keep his spirit alive the true essence of everything Frosty Freeze embodied, Hip Hop, will go on.

The legacy that Frosty Freeze leaves behind, many of whom could only dream of accomplishing says it all better than I ever could. My heart goes out to all of those who have been hit by this devastating loss. Keep your head up.
Check out the video below of the footage that was taken at the benefit jam that was thrown to celebrate Frosty Freeze’s life. I knew going to the event that I was going to see an incredible amount of support from the community but it blew me way to see everyone young and old come together like that. It truly was “All Love”….
