Little Vic - “The Exorcist” featuring DJ Premier

Little Vic with an MP crackin the pavement

“The Exorcist” by Little Vic is a hard-hitting, no-frills hip-hop track featuring production from DJ Premier. Primo lays down an appropriately minimal beat on the track, emphasizing first and foremost Little Vic’s Long Island flow. Conceptually, “The Exorcist” is equal parts braggadocio and free association. Verses such as “Marciano punchlines I’ll throw one to test ya chin / waitin’ to be blessed again, the exorcist melts tracks down / their necks will spin” showcase his rhythmic ingenuity.

Fat Ray & Black Milk - “Take Control” featuring AB

Fat Ray and Black Milk

On “Take Control,” Fat Ray & Black Milk do what they do best: create catchy, well-written hip-hop that is cerebral and yet still rattles your trunk. Fat and Black take one turn each to lay down verses that illustrate the essence of their being; they’re committed to taking control of every facet of their music, from the business to the creative. First Black Milk spits, “From the rhymes to the styles and cadence to the noun and phrases / the way I amaze is major” and then Fat Ray follows up with, “Might as well face the facts we spit the crack / even Jay-Z had to Fade To Black…Milk that is/ till we filthy rich, better make room like 50’s crib.” Guest artist AB provides a soothing contrast on the hook that contrasts nicely with the rhymes of Fat Ray and Black Milk. Black Milk’s intricately composed beat contains layers of synthesizers that periodically build in intensity and then retreat to a more subdued state, making for a musical accompaniment that appropriately complements the emcees’ elaborate rhyme schemes.

Mecca and The Ox

Vast Aire with the Fresh Can Ox Throw Back

Vast Aire - Mecca and The Ox Featuring Vordul Mega and Pete Rock

What do you get when you combine Vast Aire and Pete Rock? You get an amazing track, and with Vordful Mega on it is the icing on the cake. The new single “Mecca and The Ox” from their new LP “Deuces Wild” is another nice addition to the collection. You already know the beat’s knockin’, and the feeling of the song is as hard as any other Vast Aire joint. Check out this joint and make sure to get your copy of “Deuces Wild” when it drops June 28th, 2008.

New Singles From “Paint That Shit Gold”

Sad Clown

Atmosphere - Guarentees

In the single “Guarantees”, Atmosphere seems to have went about this song a little differently (in terms of the beat). Slug does what he does best and rhymes about life, this time it’s over a guitar sample that you can’t help but love. If you enjoy Atmosphere as much as I do then check this song out and make sure you get your copy of “When Life Gives You Lemons…” available April 22, 2008.

Atmosphere - Shoulda Known

Atmosphere is at it again on the subject of drug abuse. In their new single “Shoulda Known”, hear Slug get real on drug addiction. I’m really feelin’ this song, this joint should become an instant classic to any Atmosphere fan.

Little Story of Unsafe Sex and STDs from The Camp and Slaine

Fans of The Camp

WARNING: This song contains explicit lyrics. Now when I say explicit, I don’t mean dropping the F-Bomb once in a while. I means lyrics that would make Ron Jeremy blush. So if you are easily offended please skip over this post. You have been warned.

The Camp debut album “The Campaign” will be in stores 4/1/08.

New Track from One Be Lo’s Upcoming Album

One Be Lo - Truth in a Mirror
One Be Lo - Born and Raised

Born and Raised,” the second single from The R.E.B.I.R.T.H., is One Be Lo’s reflection on his busy life, and the positive and negative implications that have come from his situation. He deals with the themes of growing up and the issues affecting his hometown of Pontiac, Michigan (and the struggling auto industry found there). The production is a mesmerizing smattering of sounds that underlie the track: chopping up and mixing together interesting and subtle electronic flourishes along with a female vocal melody that repeats itself throughout the track. One Be Lo’s free-spirited rapping style is the perfect accompaniment to the organically composed, psychedelic nature of the track. The R.E.B.I.R.T.H., will be in stores on 2/19.
