Primeridian - Mental Void

You ever hear a Hip-Hop group/artist and wonder, “damn, these Kats are really def – am I the only one that know of them?” That thought does come across, yes; there is plenty of Hip-Hop that never gets an opportunity to see the bright sunshine. Why is that? I’ve learned to disregard that act of pondering and focus on “what can I do?”

What I can do is simple, really. Prior to the internet-age, people relied on word-of-mouth to check-out new items of interest. Let’s try word-of-type.

The Primeridian

This group coming-out of Chicago first swept me off my feet when combing through a web-site entitled: Sandbox Automatic. It allowed you to hear snippets of artists. This group in particular, caught my attention by their unique name and debut-album title: “I’ll Meet You in Greenwich”. Cool, I’ll put up a few rupees for something that piqued my interest.

Safe-to-say, I was not disappointed.

My point is not to give you a review of the album in all its greatness (though, it’s a beautiful album), it’s to share in the joy of a particular gem stored in this compilation.

As a connoisseur of the fine-arts embedded in dusty-vinyl, my travels/adventures introduced me to a wonderful artist that has been sampled beautifully by teachers like, Pete Rock, Rza, Dr. Dre, to name but a few. His name is Tom Scott. Mostly recognized for providing Pete Rock’s sound-escape for T.R.O.Y (They Reminisce Over You). I – on the other hand, know the man for creating a gem that – whenever a migraine hits, I push start on the 1200 and allow Tom to spin and weave a web of soothing sound-silk:

“Love Poem”

The resonance this song leaves is eternal. Absolutely encompassing all that “beautiful” implies. What’s more impressive is the use of this song for Primeridian’s track entitled:

“Mental Void”

This track embodies everything I enjoy in a Hip-Hop track. From the eclectic use of phrases, to the spiritual path the beat and rhymes partake in symmetry. The gentlemen in Primeridian, have taught me to keep calm and take a laid-back approach to life all with just one song. This is what I consider to be one of those tracks that have that all-around package included in it. I’d like to share it with you.

Please, enjoy.

P. S. I’ve thrown the word ‘beautiful’ all over this post. Sorry, there is no other way to describe certain things in ones life.
