About

A Movement. A Community. A Blog.

1988: The Greatest Year in Hip Hop.
All rap music was underground. Originality was not an option, it was mandatory. Video games were 8-bit. You had to dig for your music. Roger Rabbit got framed.

1998: The Start of a Movement.
Basement Flavor puts on its first show. It was called “Off The Hook” and was a true hip hop showcase. It featured 10 DJs, a local emcee showcase, a graffiti art gallery, and B-Boy performances. Basement Flavor broke the mold and set a precedent for being a head of the curve and true to the culture. We branded ourselves as an innovative promotions team that catered to true hip hop fans. The atmosphere that was created by that event would go on to be methodology that BF would use to promote quality music and artists: Community.

Basement Flavor would go on to help grow the RI hip hop scene (commUNITY) and develop young artist by organizing open mic (performance workshops) and concerts featuring independent (underground) and local artists.

2000: BasementFlavor.com steps onto the interweb.
BF continues to be innovative when we developed a platform that was bigger than the region we existed in. BasementFlavor.com offered audio, video and forums that touched, entertained and informed a hungry bunch of up and coming hip hop fans.

Basement Flavor also promoted for indie record labels in our market. Indie powerhouses such as Rawkus and Landspeed relied on BF to keep the streets of Rhode Island and Southern Massachusetts on smash with the street promotions. We also brought the commUNITY and artist development a step further when we partnered with CNJ Records (RIP) to create a studio for local emcees to record their music, get artwork designed, and get promoted in the streets and on the internet.

2004: The internet killed the record stores.
2005: The record labels betrayed the mix tape DJ’s.
2007: Myspace has turned every fan into an artist.

2008: Time to [F5] REFRESH
The old music industry has crumbled from the weight of overpaid executives and the refusal to adapt to current trends. There is a glut of horrible artists making terrible music. Commercial radio is a soundtrack to a modern blacksplotaion movie. MTV and BET are just metrosexual fashion shows and fake “reality” shows. College radio has become impotent.

The new music industry has risen from the ashes and Basement Flavor has been reborn as well. The movement is the same. Promote Independent (Underground) Hip Hop Music and Artists. The new BasementFlavor.com is the heart of that movement, providing fresh content in all flavors of media: text, audio, and video. BasementFlavor.com is fully web 2.0 compliant with the ability to broadcast rich, robust content in all forms (RSS). User can interact with all the content on the site, not just the forum. It will truly be a living, breathing site that grows organically.

Working closely with our partners: 401HipHop.com, Platinum City Productions, Monsta Music, and Family First, we strive to supply you with fresh, innovative music. We strive to establish a foothold in the ever changing New Music Industry as your number one source for fresh Hip Hop entertainment.
